PREPARATIONS
Before the introductory workshop on Thursday we were divided into our new groups depending on four partners. This term MA:UX collaborated with 4 companies: R/GA, Victoria & Albert Museum, UCL’s Centre for Behaviour Change and Applied Works.
I felt very excited to start working on the project and couldn’t wait to see the new brief and find out which company I would be working with this term. I also found myself to have no preference in this as I knew all of the companies were great and any brief would give me valuable experience and knowledge. I also felt very positive about the fact that we had 6 weeks to develop our final outcome, which gives time to properly explore and experiment.
Finally, I was assigned to work on a brief from a design studio Applied Works that goes as follows:
Design a way for people to experience The Hoffman Centre collections.
My teammate Tatiana and I decided to do some preliminary research together into the allocated partner company and analyse the brief to get us started on the project. This was also to get a better understanding of the company and what they do in order to come informed to the introductory workshop. We created a google doc with all the relevant information about Applied Works, Chatham house, Hoffmann centre, etc. and have prepared some questions we wanted to ask during the first meeting.
WORKSHOP
It was very interesting to observe each presentation from the partners. Every company presented their work, their approaches and talked about the briefs. Each of them seemed unique and interesting in their own way. After, we were put into the breakout rooms with our groups’ partner companies to meet and have a discussion about the project. I was glad we have prepared some questions beforehand they were very useful in starting the conversation and finding out more about Applied Works.

ORGANISATION
Our brief had 4 specific sub-topics to choose from: Healthy Built Environments, The Future of Electricity, Decarbonisation and Reinventing Air Travel. After the workshop we met as a big group for the first time to talk about our way forward and how would be best to organise ourselves and which topic we want to tackle. We were all very open-minded and upon expressing our areas of interest we decided to split into 2 groups each focusing on their own topic. However, we also thought it would be a great idea to have check-in meetings altogether to share our progress, help each other with testing, brainstorming or just give each other feedback to improve.
